Font Winery

In the Font Winery the traditions of viticulture and winemaking can be traced back over a century.

The family has grown grapes and made wine for many generations. Today we follow this tradition, raising excellent Hungarian grape varieties in the Kiskunság Wine Region at Soltvadkert. This is the largest wine-growing area in Hungary.

The climate of Soltvadkert and its surrounding region is perfect for grapes – here we enjoy more hours of sunshine than any other place in the whole country. The microclimate and the sandy soil provide ideal growing conditions. Of the 3,000 hectares of vineyards in this area, 70 belong to the Font family. The philosophy of the family is to further enhance the centuries-old fame of the region’s wines. Our products are perfect for gourmets and connoisseurs of fine wines alike.

Our care in growing the grapes and expert fermentation processes produce wines that are both rich-tasting and full-bodied. In the reduction we use the highest standard modern equipment to ensure that the excellence of the grapes is fully represented in the wine. At the same time, we also have cellars where wine is still fermented in traditional raised barrels.

Our wines have gained fame and recognition in many different competitions. All three of our entries – Ezerjó, Kunsági Cuvée and Kékfrankos Rosé – have won gold at the Soltvadkert Town Wine Competition. Our Kiskunság Cuvée also won an exceptional prize, being named the overall ‘Best White Wine of Soltvadkert’. We have also won gold and silver medals in several categories at Hungarian national competitions in the past few years.

Our 2010 Kékfrankos Rosé was awarded a gold medal at the Hungarian National St Nicholas’ Day competition for rosés.

Our wines are typified by rich fruitiness, a harmonious world of tastes and by elegance, and these qualities guarantee the pleasure and favour of the most discerning of palates.

The results of our care and craft can be found at our winery – Ezerjó, Irsai Olivér, Kunsági Cuvée, and Kékfrankos red and rosé. Why not give us the honour of enjoying our wines for yourself!

To your good health!

Our wines

Kékfrankos Rosé / Blue Frankish Rosé

This fresh, fruity rosé has been produced from the highest quality carefully selected grapes and bottled for your drinking pleasure.

We harvest the grapes when they are at the height of their ripeness to preserve their succulence and flavour. This full-bodied wonder is brought to you using the latest reductive technology of winemaking. Kékfrankos Rosé won gold at the Hungarian National St Nicholas’ Day competition for rosés 2011.

This wine goes perfectly with lighter dishes and friendly conversation at a recommended 10-12ºC.

Kékfrankos / Blue Frankish

The definitive blue grape variety of the Great Hungarian Plain is the ‘Kékfrankos’. The rich, dark sandy soil produces a pleasant wine, which is full of character. Its spicy bouquet harmonizes easily with the sharpness to be found in its flavour and body.

This fiery wine is a gorgeous ruby red; it is made truly smooth by being mellowed in wooden barrels.

We suggest you try it with typical Hungarian cuisine or game at 14-16ºC.

Ezerjó

Ezerjó is a real Hungarian speciality – the grape is native to the region and is the most favoured white variety of the Soltvadkert vineyards.

Its popularity is due to its tolerance of the area’s dry sandy soils. The traditionally grown grapes are fermented with the latest technology and expert knowledge to satisfy the most demanding palates.

With its pleasing, refreshing bouquet and enjoyable sharp taste, Ezerjó offers an incomparable wine drinking experience.

We recommend it with roast meats, game and poultry at 12-14ºC.

Kunsági Cuvée from Middle Hungary

This fine wine is a meeting of flavours and bodies as it is created from the marriage of the Ezerjó and Irsay Olivér wines. The smooth character and muscatel-like bouquet of Irsai Olivér blend gracefully with the strongly defined qualities of Ezerjó. These two wines are a perfect match, and they produce a feminine drink, which is not just a favourite with the ladies. This is a very attractive semi-dry, fruity wine.

We strongly recommend it alongside poultry dishes, desserts and as an excellent companion for friendly conversation at 12-14ºC.  Kunsági Cuvée won the title ‘Best White Wine of Soltvadkert’ in 2003.

Kövidinka

Dry white wine. A satisfyingly well-balanced fresh, feminine and succulent wine with an easy elegance. It is made from the Kövidinka grapes of the Kunság Wine Region at the Font Wine Cellars.

Irsai Olivér

Dry white wine. The name is originally a Hungarian man’s name. A light-coloured fresh and refreshing reductive wine with an exceptionally fine bouquet and fruity taste which produce a feminine and harmonious drink.

Cserszegi Fűszeres

Semi-sweet white wine. A naturalized-Hungarian early Muscat-type grape with which, using reductive technology, we make a light and fruity white wine that is full of character with a richly-spicy bouquet.

Cabernet Sauvignon

A dark ruby-red wine with a purple tone. In taste it is dry with smoothed-out acids and appropriately-thinned tannins. Its ripe fruitiness (raspberry and blackcurrant) is characterized by a fine spiciness.

Blauer Portugieser

Semi-sweet red wine. A felicitous silky-smooth wine with an emphasis on fruitiness. Its velvet touch is a favoured delicacy among those who like their red bittersweet.
